Wait....you mean there is GOOD news from Iraq!? Turns out the president of Michigan State...my bad ass alma mater...was asked to go to Iraq by President Bush. (Pretty impressive IMO) I guess it also turns out that he is surprised by the plethora of negative news and the absence of any positive. Considering the source(s) though, is it REALLY that surprising? Good Job President McPherson! :)

Why are we always hearing about the "Black Leaders"? I am curious...I know it is very un-PC of me to ask, I am curious about this though.

So these people...the "Black Leaders" are upset about a game called Ghettopoly. Are they also going to go after every hip-hop CD that talks about the ghetto? If people are so upset about this, why can't they just speak with their wallets and not buy the product?

Why is it necessary to organize a rally to boycott Urban Outfitters?

Could it be that without rallies and "outrage within the black community" that these social leeches...errr....I mean "Black Leaders" would be out of a job, unable to compete and nothing more than a used and washed up "Black Leader" of individuals that finally decided to take destiny into their own hands? I don't know, I'm just asking....maybe I read too much Rand. *shrug*
Desperate measures for those who cannot compete.... This is a sad, but all too common commentary on our society as it is today.

Computing With Stopped Light
by Kathy A. Svitil

Four years ago, physicist Lene Hau of Harvard University showed how to bring a beam of light to a screeching halt in a cloud of ultracold atoms. Now she's developing ways to exploit ultraslow and stopped light to create a quantum computer, a blindingly fast, hack-proof calculating machine that would use individual atoms to store data.

Despite years of research, quantum computers remain more theoretical than real. "To make one, you have to transport information, store it in a memory, and process it. People haven't figured out how to link those steps," Hau says. Stopped light could help. Hau and her colleagues have beamed a pulse of laser light into a cloud of sodium atoms cooled to a few billionths of a degree above absolute zero. A second blast of light trapped the photons, imprinting all of their information onto the atoms in the cloud. When the second laser was shut off, the arrested light was freed, precisely re-creating the original pulse. This setup could form the basis for a simple quantum-computer network.

"The photons of light would be like wires, transmitting information, and the atoms would be the nodes that store and process the information," says theorist Zachary Dutton of the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, Maryland, who is Hau's former postdoc. While the light is in storage, the cold atoms interact slightly with one another. If physicists can control that interaction, Hau says, they could use it to make calculations and then read out the results when the light is set loose. Hau expects the devices will remain confined to the lab for a long time, however. "Our system so far consists of a 5-foot-by-8-foot table filled to the brim with optics and optical gizmos," she says.

No spin here...right? Based on this headline, you would think there is a major force organizing to fight huge battles against the US troops...right?
"There is still some intense fighting to be done, especially out in the west," he said. "We should not be surprised if one of these mornings we wake up and . . . there has been a major firefight with some casualties or a significant terrorist attack that kills significant numbers of people."

Sanchez said the US-led forces are engaging resistance groups 15 to 20 times a day, on average, with as many as 25 incidents on some days. Military spokesmen have consistently cited lower figures, about 13 a day.

The general added that the resistance was showing signs of improved organization. Though most attacks against US forces are being carried out by small, locally based groups apparently acting on their own, there are indications that the resistance is beginning to operate under a broader, more regional control, Sanchez said."

Huh...not quite what I was expecting. I wonder how many people just read the headline and took that as their news, or read something into the article so it was more of what they were expecting after such a headline. Thank God for www.frontlinevoices.com

I feel like I am in an Ayn Rand novel... I am torn....do I have enough faith in people that they will see the humor in this, luagh and move on with their lives, ignoring this crap completely? Or will they be lulled into complacency, soon to accept the crap this place will put out as reality. I am leaning toward the latter right now.
